Empowered Women in Service

Women of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and America are collectively referred to as MCCA Women, with the guiding motto “In Service for Christ”.

The circuit appointed a new board of MCCA women in September 2022. It consists of the following persons: Sis Inez James (Amsterdam) President; Sis. Lea Lynch (Rotterdam) Vice-President; Sis Chericea Downes (Rotterdam) Secretary. The other members are Sis Melissa David-Williams (Amsterdam), Sis Marcia Mentar (Amsterdam), Sis Essie Dormoy (Rotterdam) and Rev’d Dr Joan Delsol Mead

Among MCCA women, there are a few prominent organizations, including The Women’s League, the movement that is featured in Holland Circuit. There is a Women’s League in both the Amsterdam and Rotterdam congregations. Sisters in these leagues focus on intercession and visiting with the homebound, the sick, and other members of the community who they want to encourage and support. Not surprisingly, the groups visit nursing homes, an activity that has been severely curtailed during the COVID pandemic.

The Rotterdam Women’s League is currently raising money for its outreach to residents of the Ronald McDonald House. This allows parents of children in the Sofia Hospital to stay overnight. The league gives parents time off from the kitchen on select days to prepare dinner.

The Women’s League has its own motto, Sincerity in Service. Members are formally admitted through a certificate of enrollment, in which new enrollees make the following pledge:

“I accept the call of God to service, and trusting in His power, I offer myself to the work of the Women’s League in this church. In all things it will be my purpose to participate in the full life of Christ’s Church, and through worship and work, to learn and do the will of God in my home, my church, and my community, and thus help establish His kingdom on earth.”

The last registration service of the Women’s League was held in Amsterdam on December 15, 2019.

The movement invites its members to serve the Lord in their homes, churches, and communities. They are encouraged to enrich themselves spiritually through the study of God’s Word and to prepare themselves and others for the challenges of life through sharing in prayer and fellowship. The Women’s League program helps equip them for service. It is therefore not surprising that the members of the Women’s League serve as the church as Congregational Stewards and Custodial Stewards in the congregations. All of our CARE Fund Stewards are women. Their specific ministry is to prepare for the celebration of the Lord’s Supper and to assist the minister in the pastoral care of the more vulnerable members.

The women of the church are also very enthusiastic about mentoring children and youth. All the teachers of the Church School (Sunday School) in the circuit are women; this also applies to the Cradle Roll Secretaries. These women keep in touch with the families of the youngest members who have been received into the church through the sacrament of baptism. They do not come regularly until they are of age to participate in church school classes.
